If everything goes according to plan, Xhaferri will call for local elections

The local elections will be called for on the 6th of August if there aren’t any changes in the plan for the elections wo be held on the 15th of October, said the President of the Parliament, Talat Xhaferri, in an interview for the state news agency, MIA.

-If things remain the same, the 6th of August is the final dead line for me to call for the local elections and that will mark the start for deadlines and the organization regarding the local elections. Then we would be working until the start of the pre-election campaign i.e. the 25th of September. During that period we will be discussing the following: the new proposals that were given by the Government i.e. around 30 laws were announced by it, part of it are proposal-laws that are in a procedure. We would finish the remaining sessions by all accounts, mainly reports by certain institutions and that would be the dynamics until the local elections -said Xhaferri.

Xhaferri is pleased by what has been done so far at the Parliament regardless of the consequences from the happenings on the 27th of April and he also said that the Parliament has become more open and more transparent. He marked that he has succeeded in managing the situation within the context of the relations between the ruling majority and the opposition.

-I think a step ahead has been made where the opposition is able to see its role and contribution and I think we are on the right track to improve that – said Xhaferri, who also said that he couldn’t have stated that there was an attempt for obstruction since it is within the boundaries of what is thought of as approved behavior on part of the opposition regarding the necessity of a debate.
