SPO on amendments to the Law on Pardons: Any law which helps us is crucial

Any law that allows us to conduct investigations without obstructions is crucial for us. This was the answer from the Office of the Special Public Prosecutor, Katica Janeva, when we asked for a comment on the amendments made to the Law on Pardons which were passed in Parliament yesterday and signed today by President Gjorge Ivanov.

“One of the primary objectives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office is to fight against crime and corruption, and any law that allows us to smoothly conduct investigations is crucial for us,” said the SPO.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office confirmed for “Meta” that requests from lawyers have reached them from suspects the SPO are investigating to stop current procedures.

“It is true that the requests by the lawyers of suspects want investigations stopped and we would like to inform you that these cases are still ongoing”, said Janeva’s office.

The suspects, according to information in the public are former Ministers Gordana Jankuloska and Mile Janakieski, the Head of Cabinet to former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski, Martin Protoger and other senior officials from the VMRO-DPMNE.
