North Macedonia gets quick access to Remdesivir, used for COVID-19 treatment

With the assistance of the European Union, North Macedonia has gained quick access to the medication used for the COVID-19 treatment, Remdesivir, informed the Government of North Macedonia. The European Commission has signed an agreement with the Gilead pharmaceutical company to acquire 500.000 doses of „Veklury“, the brand name of the Remdesivir medication with the possibility for an additional increase of the quantities.

This medicine is used for treating patients with COVID-19 than need oxygen support and the procedure for the direct acquisition of the medicine can start right now. This is the sixth successfully implemented joint procurement procedure. A joint procurement is an instrument from the European Commission at the start of the year that provided several countries with additional access to personal protection, respirators, tests, and other necessary medical equipment.
