Ivanov: Macedonia deserves NATO membership without additional conditions

-

President Gjorge Ivanov, at a meeting with US Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer, again stressed that he does not accept the agreement reached between Macedonia and Greece as it violates the Constitution and the laws and harms Macedonia’s national interests, reports the presidential office.

At the meeting they discussed the current political situation and further strengthening, enrichment and promotion of the strategic partnership between Macedonia and the United States.

Ivanov expressed his expectations that US support for foreign policy goals and Macedonia’s priorities for good neighborly relations and regional cooperation will continue.

“President Ivanov said that in 2008 the Republic of Macedonia fulfilled the conditions for NATO membership and for all these years has actively contributed in NATO missions, together with the member states. The Republic of Macedonia deserves membership without additional conditions,” reads the statement.

At the meeting, Ivanov stressed that maintaining the peace, stability and prosperity of the region is crucial for the entire European continent.
