AVMU: Public propaganda for referendum must be separate from other media content

The Agency for Audio and Audiovisual Media Services of Macedonia (AVMU) has told the media to separate the public propaganda for the referendum from other media content.

“In the last few days, advertisements from the “Imagine the Future Together” campaign from the EU Delegation for the upcoming  referendum are broadcasting on several televisions and radios. Advertising videos are not being clearly separated from other media content, they are not marked as paid public propaganda, and they also include minors,” reads the statement by the AVMU.

AVMU has appealed for programs and other advertisements of the broadcasters be clearly separated and visibly marked as paid public propaganda, and broadcast with a clear mark of the purchaser for the entire duration.

“Minors must not participate in paid public propaganda, and it must not be broadcast before, during or immediately after shows whose primary target group is children and / or youth. Also, it must not be broadcast during the news, special informative programs, as well as during direct transmissions from religious, sports, cultural, entertainment and other events,” the statement added.
