Zoran Zaev acquitted in “Bribe” case

Today, the Criminal Court acquitted Prime Minister Zoran Zaev for the crime regarding bribery. Judge Darko Todorovski from the Basic Court Skopje released Zaev from the charges.

Reading the verdict, Judge Todorovski stated that the prosecution failed to prove that Zaev while acting as mayor of Strumica committed a criminal act to receive a bribe of 160,000 euros from businessman Ivan Nikolov Sachevaliev.

The charge for bribery carries a prison sentence of at least 5 years, however, the prosecution had asked for a sentence of one to five years.
