The Skopje Zoo announced happy news – another baby, this time from the rare species White-handed gibbon was born there.

“In the Skopje Zoo, the mother Betka and the father George welcomed another baby of the rare species White-handed gibbon. Its gender is still not known, since we didn’t want to upset the mother, but the baby has an older sister, Sophie, which was born two years ago and whose birth was reported by the media around the world, since the gibbons are one of the most endangered species and the newborns are rarity both in nature and in the zoos. The White-handed-gibbons living in nature are endangered in many ways: the most present threat is the loss of their natural environment due to massive logging, roads construction, agricultural activities, tourism, forest fires, uncontrolled destruction of forests, building of new villages, and palm oil plantations. We are hoping that the world will not let these species be endangered anymore. May the new gibbon baby be alive and well,” wrote Skopje Zoo on its Facebook page.
