Skenderbeg’s historical and civilisation heritage should unite us

Skenderberg is a national hero of the Albanians, but also for all the nations that want peace in the Balkans, said DUI’s party leader, Ali Ahmeti on the occasion of the 550th anniversary of the death of Gjergj Kastriot – Skenderberg, that was celebrated today.

Ahmeti, the President of the Parliament, Talat Xhaferri, ministers, MPs and DUI’s party officials have layed flowers in front of Skenderbeg’s monument in Skopje after the Albanian anthem was intoned.

Previously, at the Parliament’s Grand Cupola, a formal academy took place where, apart from the president of the Parliament, the Director of the Institute for Spiritual and Cultural Heritage of the Albanians, Skender Asani, the Director of the Institute for National History, Dragi Gjeorgjiev and Professor Vlado Popovski, who is a historian and a member of the Board for celebrating the anniversary, all addressed the attendees.

In his speech, Xhaferri stressed that the character of Gjergj Kastrioti – Skenderberg is tightly linked with everyone who live today in the Republic of Macedonia i.e. with the “centennial strives and the fight of the Albanian and Macedonian nation for freedom and sovereignty.”

To mark the occasion, today a stamp was presented that carried the picture of Skenderbeg.
