North Macedonia: Number of COVID-19 cases rises by 26.4%, number of deaths by 22.5%

According to the weekly report by the Public Health Institute of North Macedonia for the period between 15 and 21st of March 2021, a total of 24.517 specimen were tested at the laboratories which diagnose SARS-CoV-2, with an increase of 8.4% compared to the previous week.

In this period, 6.899 new positive cases in 35 cities were registered, which is an increase of 26.4% compared to the previous week.

Most of the registered cases are from Skopje (49.9%), the highest weekly incidence of 899.1/100.000 was registered in Negotino together with Demir Kapija.

“The percentage of the positive results ranges from 23.4% to 32.3%, the average being 27.9% and is 3% more compared to the previous week. Infections were registered in all age groups. The most affected is the age group of people above 60 (25.7%). The biggest increase compared to the previous week was noticed among the following age groups: 10-19 (33.1 %), 50-59 (32.1 %) and 40-49 (30.2 %),“ states the PHI’s press release.

158 death cases were reported in 27 cities, which is an increase of 22.5% compared to the previous week.
