The European Commission’s spokesperson, Maja Kocijanchich, stated that she expects the citizens of Macedonia to cast their vote at the referendum without any outside references.
-The Eu will support the as supported the agreement for the name, and now several decisions will have to happen in order for the agreement to become definite. The referendum is a moment when the nation can use its democratic right, this is an important moment for them, to decide on their country’s future and they should be allowed to do that without any outside interference – said Kocijanchich.
When posed a question whether the EC is helping Macedonia to fight potential fake news from outside factors and interferences during the campaign, Kocijanchich stated that the European services are sharing their best practices in this area with its partners, but that the organization behind the referendum is in the hands of the state as a sovereign country.
