Hahn condemns the attack on the MPs: Parliament is no place for violence

The European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, on his Twitter profile condemned the violence and the attack on the MPs at the parliament, stating that the democracy should continue on its course.

I condemn the attacks on MPs in Skopje in the strongest terms. Violence has NO place in Parliament. Democracy must run its course, wrote Hahn on Twitter.

The parliamentary majority, led by SDSM, this afternoon when the 20th continuation of the constitutive session was stopped, they elected DUI’s MP, Talat Dzaferi for a new president of the Parliament. After that, the protesters of “For a United Macedonia” breached the police cordon and entered the Parliament. Inside they attacked a part of the SDSM’s MPs. Among the injured MPs are SDSM’s party leader, Zoran Zaev, his colleagues Damjan Manchevski and Maksim Dimitrievski.

The situation in the Parliament is still strained.
