European Commission reiterated the conditional recommendation for Macedonia

The European Commission, this year, reiterated the conditional recommendation for Macedonia’s membership in the European Union.

Johannes Hahn, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, who presented the report on Macedonia, said the country must meet all the conditions laid down by the Pržino Agreement.

“We still have not made it out of the domestic political crisis regardless of the good steps which were made recently. Leaders now have a chance to overcome the crisis and to address the systemic problems.Credible elections need to be conducted. Macedonia and Serbia played a major role in the migrant crisis and cooperated with Member States and neighboring countries. The Commission reiterates its recommendation, but the conditions are the same as last year, the Pržino Agreement and Urgent Reform Priorities need to be fully met”, said Hahn.
