Constitutional Court says the decision to call the referendum is constitutional

With 7 votes “against” and 2 “for”, the Constitutional Court decided that there are no constitutional obstacles regarding the process for announcing the referendum on September 30.

According to the majority of the judges, there is no doubt of the constitutionality and legality of the referendum.

The court said, they could not find “any doubt regarding the constitutionality and legality of the disputed decision,”Makfax reported.

The initiative was submitted by the “Levica” and the World Macedonian Congress. The applicants believe that the decision on the referendum is not in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Macedonia, the Law on Referendums and other forms of direct expression of the citizens, as well as with European standards and good referendum practices established by the Venice Commission. They demanded that the Constitutional Court completely annul the decision on the referendum, and if the decision was made after the referendum, then they annul the results.
