Constitutional Affairs Committee adopts Government’s proposal for constitutional changes

With 10 votes in favour and 7 against, the Constitutional Affairs Committee adopted a proposal by the Government to endorse the amendments of the Constitution under the Prespa Agreement.

The Commission obliged the Government within 15 days to prepare and submit a text with draft amendments and to take into consideration the remarks made at the Commission’s session.

Ten MPs from the parliamentary majority led by SDSM voted in favour, while 7 MPs from VMRO-DPMNE voted against. None abstained.

On Monday, the government’s proposal will be on the agenda of a plenary session in Parliament where, after a debate of a maximum of ten days, it should be voted by a two-thirds majority of the total number of lawmakers.
