VMRO-DPMNE’s Central Committee will be preparing the Congress for Gruevski’s resignation

At the meeting of VMRO-DPMNE’s Central Committee which will take place tomorrow, around 130 of its members will prepare all of the documents and the agenda for Nikola Gruevski’s resignation and the election of a new party leader at the extraordinary congress on the 23rd of December in Valandovo.

According to the party’s Statute, the decision of the extraordinary congress has to confirmed by 2/3 of the Central Committee’s members i.e. around hundred members.

The procedure for a candidacy isn’t yet officially opened, but the following names have appeared in the general public, Hristijan Mickovski and Ilija DImovski. Only Filip Petrovski so far has revealed his intention for a candidacy as a party leader. It is speculated about potential candidacies of Nikola Poposki, Antonio Miloshoski, Nikola Todorov and Vlatko Gjorchev.

The presidential candidate has to be proposed by 30 delegates at the Congress. It will be elected if half of the 560 delegates vote for him that remain the same as the regular congress that took place in 2015 in Kumanovo.
