Kocijancic: Pardons have to be annulled to avoid selective justice

The European Commission has been following the latest developments, said EC spokesperson Maja Kocijancic when she was asked to comment by “Meta” journalists on the decision by Parliament on the partial pardons and what measures could be monitored by Brussels.

“We are following the latest developments in the country; on this particular issue as expressed in the joint statement by HRVP Mogherini and Commissioner Hahn, our position is very clear”, said the spokesperson from the EC.
Kocijancic also repeated that the pardons have to be urgently rescinded.

“The parties must urgently address the serious concerns about President Ivanov’s pardoning of a number of officials. Following the Parliament’s decision yesterday, we expect the April 12 pardons to be urgently rescinded without delay to preserve the principle of accountability, counteract serious concerns about impunity and avoid selective justice. It is a fundamental democratic principle that all citizens should be equal before the law”, said Kocijancic.
