Hodza: The national debt towards private companies is approximately 1 billion euros

The new government should revise how much the state owes and which institutions have debts in order to think whether we should enter into negotiations for cooperation with those institutions, said Nebi Hodza, the president of the Chamber of Commerce of North-West Macedonia on a weekly interview on Radio Free Europe.

He said that the government’s debt or the state’s debt towards private companies is most probably the amount of one billion euros.

“It is rumoured that the debt of the government or the state towards private companies is around 1 billion euros but that is the situation is in all countries where the state owes the private sector. The most important factor is that these debts not to be longer than three months because in the private sector every indebtedness is a burden on business. In this respect, it is normal that the new government carry out an audit of the amount of these debts in order for us, the business sector to have an insight into which state institutions are in debt so we can start thinking whether we can enter into negotiations for a cooperation with any of these institutions”, said Hodza.
