EU on Zaev: Macedonian institutions to comply with legal standards

EU Department of Foreign Affairs responded tonight to criminal charges against opposition leader Zoran Zaev and former head of intelligence Zoran Verushevski and his wife.

“These are very serious allegations and we remind to the inalienable right to an independent and transparent investigation in case of alleged mismanagement, with full respect for the rights of defense, in accordance with the law and international standards, including the principle of presumption of innocence. EU also reiterates its concern about the deterioration of the political dialogue in the country. Political parties should refrain from actions that would further aggravate the situation,” reads EU statement.
