Citizens have withdrawn a record amount of 58.5 million euros from banks in April

Citizens have withdrawn a record amount of money from banks in April of 58.5 million euros ($ 3.6 billion), which is 1.6 percent of total deposits. Today the Governor of the National Bank of Macedonia, Dimitar Bogov said he has regular meeting with the bankers at the Economic Chamber of Macedonia.

“National Bank intervened with 77 million euros in the market. The withdrawal of this huge amount of money from citizens was a real stress test for banks, because of its good liquidity, capitalization and high level of foreign exchange, they managed to cope with the crisis”, said Bogov.

This massive withdrawal by citizens was linked to speculation about alleged devaluation rate and artificially created crisis for the exchange market for hard currency.
