Zvrlevski launches investigation into a high ranking official at the Municipality of Strumica

-

The Public Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Corruption have launched an investigation into a “high ranking official from the Municipality of Strumica”, for the crime of abuse of office and authority, announced the Public Prosecution today.

According to the prosecution, the suspect, whose identity can not be disclosed, is being charged because in 2010, on the same day, he signed four separate contracts with the same company worth 1.029.549 denars (approximately 17,000 euros) for paving the same street.

“Instead of conducting a transparent public procurement procedure, by issuing a public tender, he signed and conducted four separate contracts without public notice, despite the legal ban on dividing a contract for public procurement with separate contracts with a lower value. He broke the Law on Public Procurement, causing damage to the budget of the municipality”, reads the statement from the prosecution.

Over the weekend, pro-government media outlets published details and announced the prosecution’s investigation.
