Association of Journalists of Macedonia strongly condemns the brutal manipulation of public service Macedonian Radio-television for daily party-political needs. MRT is funded by the broadcasting fee of the people and it should serve the public interest, is the opinion of the association.
“Debate broadcasted live on Sunday at 8 pm, led by editor-in-chief Goran Petrovski, where the topic of conversation was the scandal “Puch”, is a typical example of unprofessional and unethical behavior of a journalist who works in the public broadcasting service.
Instead of the debate to serve as an opportunity for the public to get additional information and analysis on the current topic, the conversation turned into a unanimous cheer for the governing party.
In this show, the editor Petrovski violated basic standards and principles provided for in Article 111 of the Law on audio and audiovisual media services for journalists and editors of the MRT.
Through selection of guests, Petrovski violated the legal principle of impartiality and thoroughness of the information, as well as the principle of political balance and pluralism of views,” reads the statement of AJM.
