Zaev: There won’t be elections on April 24, because they won’t be prepared by then

-

Neither Zaev, Gruevski, Ahmeti or Thaci, and not even Hahn himself can not tell how long it will take to cleanse and renew the voters’ list. Such a statement can only come from the State Election Commission, said SDSM leader Zoran Zaev, at a press conference.

Zaev claims that on April 24 election will not be held because they can not reach the deadline for cleansing the voters’ lists. As Zaev says, it will take up to 85 to 90 days to renew the list.

He added that the voters’ list need to be compared to the old lists with new data, to compare the ten databases with the electoral roll, to make spot checks and to remove those who should not be on the list. Zaev also said that citizens needed to be separated into categories, citizens who vote in Macedonia and citizens who vote through diplomatic-consular offices.

“If they finish cleansing the voter list by April 15 elections should be held on June 5. If they are finished on May 15, elections will be held on July 5. Negotiations on the media and electoral register are very weak, because the Government is weak. It must be very an embarrassing moment for the Government to come out with the renewal of the voters’ list”, he added.

For Macedonia to move forward, says Zaev, it requires free, fair, democratic and crystal clear elections. According to Zaev, elections can not take place on April 24.

“SDSM and its coalition partners and a large number of other parties will not participate in the scheduled and one-sided elections. The Przhino Agreement was established to overcome the political crisis, not to deepen it. Now every citizen of Macedonia knows for themselves that Nikola Gruevski does not want free, fair and democratic elections, because he knows he will lose”, Zaev said.

He added that SDSM and its coalition partners will not back down from the fight, because without the renewal of the electoral list and without a free media, there can’t be democratic elections.
