Zaev: The SDSM will not participate in another criminal election

-

The SDSM will not participate in early parliamentary elections which will be held on June the 5th. The party leader Zoran Zaev announced this decision minutes after Parliament Speaker Trajko Veljanoski dissolved Parliament.

“Macedonia! Without free elections, there is no freedom. For months, together we have fought for free elections and the principle of ‘one man, one vote’. The Przino agreement was signed to guarantee these principles. Nikola Gruevski has consistently undermined the Przino Agreement. The voters lists have not been purged, and there has been no media reforms. For us, the word is a word. We do not give up on our principles. On behalf of the word and of those principles, the SDSM will not participate in these elections. In recent months, the citizens of Macedonia saw and heard that the VMRO-DPMNE hasn’t respected the Przino Agreement so they could protect their criminal activities. And to stay in power they continue with crime and corruption no matter what”, said Zaev.

The SDSM accused the VMRO-DPMNE of violating the Przino Agreement and silencing those who think differently to avoid the truth being heard.

“We will not allow the last flame of freedom and democracy in Macedonia to be extinguished . We urge all citizens regardless of their political, religious and ethnic backgrounds, to preserve democracy for the future of Macedonia. The real power is the citizens. I say to Nikoa Gruevski, that he shall not extinguish the light of freedom and democracy in Macedonia”, said Zaev

When speaking to the media Zaev said that the government is holding the ministers of the SDSM hostage.

“Today our ministers and deputy ministers resigned on time, but someone had the nerve to take them hostage. We will do all and everything for our people, so as not to be part of a government intent on conducting criminal elections. Also, tomorrow we will be having a meeting with our members in the SEC, and we will decide whether they will be withdrawn from the Commission. It is almost certain that they too will be withdrawn”, said Zaev.

He also added that throughout the day he had consulted with various members of the International Community about the parties latest decision. He said that those consultations were moving in the direction of seeking the opportunity for the holding of fair and proper elections.

When asked by the media whether the Przino Agreement was dead, the opposition leader said he could not say whether it is dead, but he could determine that Parliament was dissolved without providing the minimum in conditions for free and fair elections.

When asked, what the parties plans for the immediate future, and whether they planned to continue with publication of further “bombs” Zaev stated they would do so, by all means and in accordance with the Constitution and the law, they will fight to restore democracy in the country.
