SDSM leader Zoran Zaev, accompanied by Secretary General Oliver Spasovski and member of the Executive Board of SDSM and President of the Commission of Economy Dragan Tevdovski, this afternoon met with a delegation led by US Congressman Eliot Angel, accompanied by US Ambassador to Macedonia, Jess Bailey.
The current political crisis in Macedonia, interethnic relations and Euro-Atlantic prospects were the main topics of conversation.
President Zaev announced SDSM policies aimed at restoring the destroyed democratic values in Macedonia.
Institutions are partisan, public administration working under pressures of the government, and media and judiciary are under full government control. Because of this, trust in the usurped institutions is lost, as recent reports of the State Department, the European Commission, and the UN directly indicate. The trampled democracy and freedom of the citizens must be restored. For this purpose, we insist on organization of the Government in which both government and opposition must be guarantors for the expression of the free will of the citizens and for the preparation and conducting fair and democratic elections – said the president Zaev.
He expressed expectation that very soon will hold a leadership meeting and stressed the need for seriousness and responsibility of all countries to the interests of the citizens, rather than personal or partisan purposes.
US Congressman Angel and members of the delegation were particularly interested in interethnic relations in Macedonia.
President Zaev announced positive example of the coalition Citizens for Macedonia, which showed that citizens, regardless of differences of any sort, can work together when there is a sincere will.
