Zaev and Borisov do not want to interfere – they encourage both churches to find a solution

-

Macedonian and Bulgarian Prime Ministers, Zoran Zaev and Boyko Borisov, today said they respect the secular character of their two countries and do not want to interfere in the work and cooperation of the two churches, but they can encourage them to find a solution in the spirit of good neighborly relations and friendship.

“I hope that it will come to mutual recognition, because for us as the Macedonian Orthodox Church – Ohrid Archbishopric, autocephaly is very important. The question is between the two churches. It is our job to encourage them to find a solution in the spirit of the Treaty of good neighborly relations and friendship between the two countries”, said Zaev, answering a journalist question about the letter that the Macedonian Orthodox Church sent to the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

Bulgarian Prime Minister Borisov stressed that they do not want to interfere in the affairs of the churches, but added that they would be happy if both churches cooperate and help one another, just as Macedonia and Bulgaria cooperate on a political plan.

Borisov thanked Bishop Naum and the other bishops who today welcomed the two state delegations at the Vodoča monastery in Strumica.
