What will the SPO not be able to do starting from today?

-

Starting from today, the Special Public Prosecution (SPO) will not be able to file charges for the cases it took over from the Basic Public Prosecutions on the 4th of December 2015 i.e. a total of 34 cases.

This was agreed upon from the articles in the Law for the SPO with which the deadline for filing charges is limited to 18 months.

Apparently, Article 22 of the Law on the SPO says that “the public prosecutor that is managing with the Public Prosecution (Katica Janeva) can file charges or order to stop an investigation procedure in a period not longer than 18 months starting from the day when the cases and the materials were taken over from its custody.”

On the 4th of December 2015, the Basic Public Prosecution for prosecuting organized crime and corruption and the Basic Public Prosecution handed over to the SPO 31 cases of illegal wiretapping and Janeva and her team have received other cases from the prosecutions in Bitola and Kumanovo. On the 15th of December 2015, the Special Public Prosecutor announced that the SPO is in charge and it will work on 34 cases including the “Putsch” case.
