What does the original SOS mean? “Save our Souls”, “Save our Skin”… or “Save us from Soros”?

-

Yesterday, the formation of the new civil movement “Stop Operation Soros” was announced, and if you look closely  at the abbreviation or acronym, it is identical to the international Morse Code distress signal – SOS (three dots, three dashes and three dots).

The purpose of this new movement, according to its founders, Cvetin Chilimanov, Nikola Srbov and Nenad Mirchevski say is “to initiate and contribute to the process of desorosization in Macedonia”, which was announced a month ago by the leader of VMRO-DPMNE, Nikola Gruevski.

The international distress signal, SOS, has become popular and became associated with such phrases as “Save Our Ship” or “Send Our Succour” or “Save our Soul” and “Save our Skin”…

According to “Wikipedia“, the international distress signal was first adopted by the German Government on April 1, 1905, as part of a set of national radio regulations and then a year later, it was accepted as the standard international distress call with the signing of the Second International Radiotelegraphic Convention of November 3, 1906. It was enforce on July 1, 1908. SOS remained effective until 1999 when it was replaced by the Global Maritime security system and alarm, but it still remains valid and is still recognized as a visual signal for help in a time of need.

The SOS distress signal consists of three dots, three dashes and three dots, all written together with no space between the characters (letters), which they symbolize.

The new civil movement “Stop Operation Soros” when broadcasted by its abbreviation or acronym of SOS, it sounds like this:

The civil movement, apart from adopting the SOS signal for help, said its mission will be led by the maxim “Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country.”

This is a famous phrase taken from US President John F. Kennedy inaugural speech as president in 1963.
