Vučić pledges no interference in referendum, saying it’s good for Belgrade if dispute is solved

-

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, regarding the upcoming referendum in Macedonia, said that Serbia does not want to interfere in the internal issues of other countries, but that it will support everything that leads to stability in the region and will always respond positively when its neighbors solve their problems.

“Everything that contributes to regional stability is important for the entire region,” Vučić said at a joint press conference with Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, at the Presevo-Tabanovce boarder-crossing.

When asked whether he would urge Serbs in Macedonia to support the agreement with Athens in the referendum, Vučić said that Serbia does not want to interfere and that it is good news for Belgrade, if Skopje and Athens resolve the dispute.

Zaev said all leaders in the region should be united around the goal of achieving mutual peace.

“Macedonia supports the solution for Kosovo. A solution that will improve the lives of Serbs and Albanians. A solution that will guarantee peace and security in Serbia and Kosovo,” Zaev said.

At the boarder-crossing, Zaev and Vučić discussed the establishment of a unified border-crossing between the two countries, with only one border and customs control which will halve the waiting time.
