The Mayor of Skopje, Petre Shilegov, has said that from today all work related activities on the Vodno pipeline have been halted. All such work will cease until the dialogue and debating process regarding the pipeline have been completed. He called on the representatives of the competent state bodies, as well as the representatives of the civic associations to attend the debate, on Monday at 13:00h at the Council of the City of Skopje.
“Construction of the Vodno pipeline is causing concern and reactions amongst the public. I would like to emphasize that prior to the start of the construction activities, intensive talks with activists and all concerned citizens were preceded by joint alternative compromise solutions. As a result of these talks, we managed to reduce the width of the route of the pipeline from 25 to 10 meters and alterations of the route in one part to that of 4 kilometers. Nevertheless, it is obvious that the public are concerned regarding the alignment and construction of the pipeline. I, as a mayor, can not just calmly and silently observe this process”, Shilegov said.
