After December 10, International Human Rights Day, the Embassy of France awarded the prize for Human Rights to the Ecological Society “Vila Zora” from Veles. The award was received by Nenad Kocic, President of the company.
French Ambassador Laurence Auer said this year decided to award the prize to the human right who also values a healthy environment and lifestyle.
“The role that “Vila Zora” accomplished is the study and information on soil pollution by heavy metals, and also tried and resolve the issue. We awarded them because apart from a scientific approach, they are constantly informing citizens about the consequences of pollution”, said Ambassador Auer.
Nenad Kocic, was thankful for the award, and said it was their duty as an NGO is to fight for the good of the people, not just locally, but also globally.
“We have been struggling these years with pollution of the soil, which is contaminated with heavy metals and impairs the quality of life of people in Veles”, said Mr Nenad Kocic.
“Vila Zora” is an environmental association that conducts activities involving citizens and informs them about the health consequences of the soil contamination in Veles. They carry out training, lectures in schools and discussions with relevant experts in the field of health and ecology on specific topics related to the protection of the environment.”
