Each member state of the European Union, after accepting the euro as the currency, has the right to apply its own national symbols to the coins and notes, said activists through an urban action that is part of the civil campaign “Step Forward! The choice is yours! “(Zacekorinapred.mk).
“We hope that the day will come soon when Shar Mountain, the Lynx cat, the Ohrid trout and our other symbols will shine on the euro coins. Encouraged by this European practice, we decided to let the citizens, on the street practically, capture how it could be applied in our country in the future. With this action, we as a group of urban artists – activists, decided in our own way, to the best of our knowledge, to refresh the dry pre-referendum landscape, but also to support the efforts in bringing Macedonia and its citizens closer to the EU,” say the activists.
