Tsipras in Brussels: The name according to international law and in the UN

-

New Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, yesterday evening in Brussels, reiterated that “the differences we have” should be resolved with respect to international law within the United Nations and that Greece’s attitude will not change.

To the question of the correspondent of META at Tsipras’ press conference after the informal meeting of heads of states and governments, “are you considering doing something to unblock relations with the northern neighbor and, if not, to take steps regarding the name dispute,” Tsipras replied: “When you say relations with neighboring country, which country do you mean? We have many neighbors …”Although the correspondent confirmed that she is talking about the Republic of Macedonia, the Greek Prime Minister didn’t react to the mention of the constitutional name and gave the previously used answer.

– Our position is that we should have substantial ties and cooperation with all our neighbors and will do so in future, given that all differences should be resolved with respect to international law and in the UN. We will also do so regarding the differences we have with our neighbor FYROM. This is our position and we will not change it – said Tsipras.
