Tsipras rejects Juncker’s new proposal

-

Alexis Tsipras does not think to make a step back. Greek PM confidently steps towards referendum decision on Sunday with great optimism and hope that people will express support and provide a stronger mandate to seek a fairer deal on Greece by international lenders. Late last night, Greek government received a new message and a new proposal for the Greek agreement by the head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker, which was expressly rejected.

In the proposal, Juncker requested Tsipras to encourage people to vote “for” the measures on the referendum, assuring him that the European institutions will embrace change of their proposal and calling him to request an extraordinary meeting of the Eurogroup. The rejection of the proposal came in the form of information from government sources, saying that Tsipras on Sunday will clearly vote against measures of the institutions.
Tsipras yesterday sent a direct and clear message to the citizens that he doesn’t intend to submit to the will and demands of European lenders.

– If citizens want a humiliated PM, let them choose one. I’m not like that – Tsipras stressed in an interview for national television ERT.

He tried to send a message of encouragement to the people and a strong appeal not to succumb to fear and threats of bankruptcy and exit from the Eurozone. He noted that he personally does not believe that Greece would be excluded from the Eurozone since the EU will pay too expensive price for it.

– I do not think they want to exclude us from the euro and will not do so – said Tsipras.
