The Truthmeter review showed that the woman in the photo had nothing to do with “a Russian grandmother offering a secret recipe.” This photo can be found on sales sites and can be bought for less than 10 Euros. The “secret recipe”, on the other hand, is that onion water is not a recommendation from doctors for the treatment of high blood pressure, writes Truthmeter.mk.

This grandmother discovered the secret recipe, the post reads.
In the post, there is a link to an article stating that a 75-year-old Russian grandmother used onions to regulate high blood pressure. Attached to the article is a photo of an old woman and of course a recipe for the “magic potion”.
In the morning, boil one onion (about 300 grams) with 250 milliliters of water. Boil for 8 to 10 minutes. Divide the liquid into three parts and drink each half an hour and a half before breakfast, the other before lunch and the third half before dinner. Apply the treatment for 10 days without interruption, and then take a break, the article says.
The Truthmeter review showed that the adult woman in the photo had nothing to do with “a Russian grandmother offering a secret recipe.” This photo can be found on sales sites and bought for less than 10 Euros. Thus, the woman is not only presented as a grandmother from Russia with a secret blood pressure drink, but she is also used as an illustration of the reforms in the care system for the elderly in Israel, but also as an illustration of a text that talks about what it would happen if the husband betrayed his mother and chose the wife.
As for the secret recipe for high blood pressure, we must note that onion is definitely not a recommendation from doctors for the treatment of high blood pressure.
High blood pressure is a serious health condition and in the long run, even in the short term (if it is too high), it can be a killer, points out Dr. Aleksandar Mitov on his official website.
He lists some of the most important lifestyle habits that significantly help in the prevention and some in the treatment of high blood pressure. And of course, he does not mention onions anywhere.
- Reduce salt intake to a minimum and watch out for the so-called hidden salt that can be found in many products.
- Eat less saturated fat and more healthy fats and whole foods rich in fiber.
- Exercise regularly.
- Reduce your caffeine intake! (Drink low-sweetened beverages instead of coffee, Coca-Cola and energy drinks)
- Find a way to deal with stress.
- Lose weight or do not let yourself gain weight.
Similar tips can be found on the website of Primarius Dr Samardziski. Recommended for patients with high blood pressure is physical activity (brisk walking 20-30 minutes a day, football, tennis, basketball), staying in the fresh air, keeping the weight close to the ideal (should be determined by a doctor according to the body mass index), regular and healthy diet, regular medical examinations, according to a pre-made schedule, even if there are no complaints, once a year control in patients with regulated blood pressure, if there are no difficulties of any kind, regular medication and procedures a healthy lifestyle and a healthy diet, as recommended by a doctor, taking care of your own health and good regulation of blood pressure.
It is not advisable to drink onion water. Onion water as a remedy for high blood pressure (hypertension) is not found in the Guidelines for medical care for hypertension adopted by the Ministry of Health.
Given all of the above, we can conclude that the post we are reviewing contains disinformation. Onion water does not cure high blood pressure and such secret recipes should never be taken without consulting a specialist, as they can lead to side effects on health. The grandmother presented in the post is definitely not the grandmother from Russia with the secret recipe. Thus, we evaluate the post as untrue.
