The railroad line to Skopje airport becomes part of the new North Macedonia government’s program

The building of a new railroad line from Miladinovci to the International airport Skopje became part the Government of North Macedonia’s work program for the period between 2020-2024. The new government led by Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, which was elected yesterday by the Parliament, obliged itself to build the railroad branch line in the length of 5 km. This will help the city to have an airport train as the fastest and cheapest transportation option from the airport to Skopje’s center.

Since last fall until today, Meta.mk had been writing extensively about the need of introducing an airport train from the Transport Center to the Skopje airport. This project was supported by the Public Enterprise for Railroad Infrastructure NRM’s Railways, which stated they are ready to implement the project. Simultaneously, in the past period, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has put the project for the introduction of a railroad line from the Transport Center to the International airport Skopje on the list of priority projects for which it shall apply for funding from the EU and other international financial institutions.

The new government obliged itself that in the next four years it will prepare the pilot project for the introduction of a city railway of the current railroad branch line Zelenikovo – Drachevo – Lisiche – Pintija – 11 Oktomvri – Transport Center and it will also prepare the project’s technical documentation for the electrification of the railway line from Transport Center – Skopje Sever – Gjorche Petrov – Volkovo – Blace.
