The “Open Society” Foundation is undesirable in Russia

The Russian Prosecutions Office today determined that the George Soros Foundation “Open Society” and the  “OSI Asistens” foundation are not welcome in Russia. When the Prosecutions Office specified the reasons behind the decision, they simply said they pose a threat to the constitutional order of Russia.

A spokeswoman, Marina Gridnjeva for the Prosecution said the decision was made based on the request of the Federation Council (upper house of Parliament) in July this year, the involvement of these organizations are on the list of undesirable NGOs.

On this list among others were I-National Fund for Democracy, the International Republican Institute, National Democratic Institute for International Affairs and “Freedom House”.
