The new elections, as demanded by VMRO-DPMNE will mean a new round of uncertainties for SPO’s mandate

-

The repeated dismissal of the Parliament and calling for new early parliamentary elections, as is requested by VMRO-DPMNE, will mean new uncertainties for the extension of the mandate i.e. the deadline of 18 months for filing charges by the Special public prosecutor’s office.

VMRO-DPMNE’s leader, Nikola Gruevski, last night, until midnight, wasn’t able to secure a coalition majority for forming a government, after DUI’s presidency even after several days of sessions didn’t make a positive decision for an eventual coalition with Gruevski and VMRO-DPMNE and has left all of the options open.

After this, VMRO-DPMNE came out with an announcement that “organizing new elections is a good solution and it would be for the purpose of solving the crisis as well as for setting the reformatory priorities to come first.”

The special public prosecutor, Katica Janeva and her team have around five months more (until 4th of June i.e. 30th of June) to open investigations and for filing charges for the cases that are connected and have come out of SDSM’s “bombs” i.e. the illegal communications surveillance.

This is a result of the current Law for SPO, where it was determined that SPO has 18 months “starting from the takeover of the cases” for opening or closing investigations and filing charges. Apparently, SPO took the cases and the materials from the Public prosecution and SDSM twice, on the 4th of December 2015 and on the 30th of December 2015.
