Intolerance is Moral and Spiritual Blindness

-

“In the era of digitalization and the globalization through the Internet communication, one can find plenty of false and incorrect information that instigate hatred and intolerance. In the last 5 years, in Macedonia its advancement is evident, and unfortunately, the crisis in the country influenced the level of tolerance. I hope that when the Criminal code is set the hate speech will be defined more precisely,” said Jeffrey Goldstein, the deputy chief of OSCE’s mission in Skopje, at today’s international conference on the dialogue between civilizations and the challenges of tolerance in the digital era. The conference as taking place at the Macedonian academy of sciences and arts (MASA), in order to mark the Day of Tolerance.

Academician Vlado Kambovski stressed that all forms of intolerance are interpreted as moral and spiritual blindness.

-Until there is no effective prosecution of criminal caused and instigated by hatred, the level of tolerance will not be on a higher level – said Dr. Besa Arifi of the Law Faculty at the University of Southeastern Europe in Tetovo. Also, he stressed that the world will not be destroyed by the actions of the wicked, but it will happen because of the disinterest and non-action by the good people.

Dr Rumjana Zeleva, a sociologist of the Bulgarian academy of sciences, addressing the attendees in English, said that tolerance is an inclusive and relative concept. Because of that, it is necessary to include all concerned sides of intolerance in this process. The event was opened by the president of MASA, the academician Taki Fiti.
