-

The Ministry of Environment announced that today at the “Bogorodica” border crossing 11 trucks transporting waste used as fuel were stopped. Their final destination is the cement plant “Usje” and an analysis of the transported waste was conducted.

The fuel from refuse derived fuel has been used by the cement plant for quite a long time and it has a permit to do so according to current laws.

“The state inspectorate for environment in coordination with the Ministry of Environment and Physical planning and the Customs have conducted an inspection of 11 transportation truck which were transporting waste from Italy which final destination is the cement plant Usje which has a permit to use RDF waste as an alternative fuel. The trucks were stopped at the Bogorodica border crossing. The total quantity of waste is 261 tons” announced the ministry.

By a random selection, samples were taken from two trucks while the other trucks were inspected. The samples will be submitted at two laboratories, a Research center in Estonia and the Chemical laboratory RZ Technical control.

The analysis results are expected to arrive in 10 days, and until the results are received the waste trucks will be put under special surveillance.

The RDF waste is done from biodegradable (organic and synthetic) materials and plastic that cannot be recycled, and is used as fuel in cement plants, ceramics plants and sometimes at thermal power plants. This type of waste i.e. fuel is allowed for use in the EU.
