A group of demonstrators led by the leadership of the DUI party are currently in Butel, where the cornerstone for the foundations of the cross were consecrated, reports “Nova TV”.
They pulled down the entire fenced area around the foundation and set up tents and Albanian flags. Some of the protesters prohibited journalists them from approaching the site and the Albanian flags.
The protest was also attended by minors, and the public speeches were addressed in Albanian.
The present Mayor of Cair, Izet Mexhiti addressed the demonstrators, who said that the protest was a result of a religious split that was provoked by the placing of the cross, because according to him, crosses and minarets, should be in religious buildings, and not in the middle of the streets .
Even though, according to him, it is a civil revolt, in the first row and leading the procession of protesters were DUI officials.
