“Freedom and Privacy on the Internet” is the theme of the Eleventh International Conference “E-society”, which will take place on Thursday, at the hotel ‘Holiday Inn’ and within the project the implementation of “Decentralized cooperation between the Lower Normandy region and Macedonia”, in cooperation with the Foundation for Internet and Society “Metamorphosis” and the International Institute of Human Rights and Peace from Caen, France.
Bardil Jashari, the Director of “Metamorphosis”, said the goal of the conference is to express the lessons learned from the region and the EU, and also to present and discuss the challenges that we face in Macedonia.
“The balance between freedom of expression, and privacy and security of citizens is a very complex and sensitive. Unfortunately, very often, the proposed legislation and policies that actually need to ensure that balance is ineffective due to a lack of clear and universal understanding of the concept of privacy and still even more inefficient implementation. It happens in the name of security and safety of citizens, governments often to regulate that balance. In Macedonia there has been a drastic setback for freedom of expression, while at the same time the privacy of thousands of citizens is in jeopardy”, said Jashari.
The conference, will be in four sessions, and will cover topics such as human rights as the foundation of modern society, privacy, freedom of expression, the sharing of best practices in human rights education, tools to improve security and privacy on the Internet, standards for journalists, human rights and the fight against hate speech, human rights and elections, all kinds of human rights, as well as conclusions and recommendations for future steps.
The conference will be opened by French Ambassador Laurence Auer, Deputy Minister of Local Government Ljupco Prendzov, State Secretary for European Affairs Ana Blazeska, Director of the International Institute for Peace and Human Rights, Zhonas Bosha and the Director of “Metamorphosis” Bardil Jashari.
