The children living in the area of municipality of Centar were most frequent patients due to pulmonary diseases

While the air pollution in Skopje is reaching record heights what has passed almost unnoticed are the results of examinations of the consequences of the air pollution on children’s health in Skopje.

The highest rate of examinations by a doctor specialist due to pulmonary diseases was registered in the municipality of Centar while the lowest was registered in Saray, as is evidenced in the results from the examination of the consequences of the air pollution on people’s health with an accent given to preschool and school children (2017/19). This was financed by the City of Skopje.

Most of the examinations due to respiratory diseases were evidenced at children with an age between 0 and 6 y, and the teenagers on the age of above 15 have visited a doctor because of the same reasons in the municipalities of Karposh and Centar. The lowest number of examinations was evidenced in Saray.

The highest rate of examinations due to asthma and the worsening of asthma symptoms among children is one of the main health indicators of the polluted air’s damaging influence was registered in the municipality of Centar and the lowest in Saray.

This examination indicates the PM 2,5 articles as acute problems that the state measuring stations only measure the pollution at only several locations in the country. According to this examination, the lowering of the temperature of the air and the increase of the PM 2,5 particles statistically increase the death rate in Skopje area.
