The trial against SDSM leader Zoran Zaev for the case which has been dubbed “Potkup” (meaning Bribery or Bribe), was supposed to start today in the Basic Court Skopje 1, however the case has been postponed. The hearing, reported by “Telma” was postponed because Zaev failed to make an appearance in the courtroom, because he was on an official business trip.
Zaev as the Mayor of Strumica, is accused for demanded a bribe of 163,924 euros from a businessman from Strumica for the legalization of state land.
According to Zaev’s defence attorney Filip Medarski, the bribe was never received, and the seizure of the user’s right to use of the land for construction is not the Mayor’s responsibility, but it is the responsibility of the Ministry of Finance or the Department for Property and Legal Affairs Office.
