Tensions on the border near Gevgelija caused the three Presidents to cancel their visit to quota 59

-

At Idomeni, tensions have flared up again between refugees and the Macedonian police. A short time ago, a group of refugees began to pull at the fence of the Macedonian-Greek border to make a hole in the fence and enter Macedonian territory.

With the intent to distract the refugees, the Macedonian police threw stun grenades towards the refugees. Greek special forces also intervened and formed a blockade before the refugees could get through.

Because of the incident, and for safety reasons, the Presidents of Macedonia, Croatia and Slovenia, Gjorge Ivanov, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovik and Borut Pahor have cancelled their trips to quota 59 on the southern border.

According o our sources on the ground, the three Presidents came within 50 metres of quota 59, when they returned due to the risk of new tensions on the border by the migrants in Idomeni.
