“Student Plenum” walks out of session at UKIM after their microphones were turned off

-

Four representatives of the “Student Plenum” walked out of a session at the Rectory of the University “Ss. Cyril and Methodius” where a new Rector was meant to be elected. After being stripped of their say, and their microphones turned off, they walked out. They rebelled against the decision by the Commission for the verification of the Senate, and the confirmation of the mandates of ten representatives of the Student Parliament at UKIM (SPUKM), claiming they are illegitimate.

“This is shameful for UKIM. This situation is called “What’s in front of our noses, we cannot see.” This is a terrible situation. I did not believe it would come to this. What is happening to the oldest university, to UKIM, is shameful” , said Dea Zdravkovska from the “Student Plenum”.

A professor from the “Professors’ Plenum” Maja Stevanovic said that the illegitimate representatives from SPUKM endanger the functioning of the University.

“I’m trying to warn my colleagues of the danger of illegally verifying mandates of people who should not be members of the Senate and they’re voting. This will cause legal consequences retroactively. The university is endangered. This can cause a terrible chain of consequences”, said Professor Stevanovic.

The Rector, Velimir Stojkovski claims he has no legal authority to intervene in elections for student representatives.

Under the item “Miscellaneous” the session will form a committee to review these issues, however, once a Rector is chosen, the procedure is in progress.

Earlier on today, members of the “Student Plenum” blocked the University Rectory. They say that the mandate of the representatives of the Student Parliament expired a long time ago and it is necessary to choose legitimate student representatives first, and then elect a new Rector.
