The Independent Union of Journalists and Media Workers welcomed the Government’s decision to give free access to documents from the Central Register and from the Real Estate Cadastre Agency to investigative journalists , but at the same time urged the government to amend the Law on Access to Public Information.
“We believe that with this decision investigative journalists will have easier access to information, which will increase transparency, accountability and the social responsibility of officials and individuals of public functions, but also of the legal entities and will influence the reduction of corruption and abuse of official positions. The Independent Trade Union of Journalists and Media Workers hopes that this decision will simultaneously encourage the development of otherwise deficient investigative journalism, which plays an essential role in providing information of public interest, ” stated the SSNM.
