The Independent Syndicate of Journalists and Media Workers (SSNM) strongly condemns the direct threats made against journalist Snezana Lupevska Sozen and “Telma” TV during yesterday’s interview on “Top Tema” by the head of “IGM Trade”, Ilija Gechev , read a statement by the SSNM.
It adds that the threat which was made in public that Lupevska would be repeatedly sued, by “the best and the most expensive” lawyers, is not much different than a threat of physical harm.
“Methods may vary depending on the upbringing, standing and financial means of the perpetrator, however, the end result is the same – to silence journalists and discourage media chiefs from supporting investigative inquiries into matters of public interest”, reads the statement by the SSNM .
They went on to explain that the use of lawsuits as a threat and intimidation against journalists and the media, is a constant theme voiced by the journalists community.
