SPO will not confirm and will not rule out whether Ivanov or Ambassadors were tapped

-

Although the issue was raised today, the Special Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) did not say whether in the past seven years (from 2008 to the end of 2015) ambassadors and diplomats in the country were tapped, as well as the Commander in Chief, Gjorge Ivanov. They did confirm that politicians, journalists and businessmen had been tapped.

Prosecutor Lence Ristoska, although would not confirm the possibility that Ivanov and foreign diplomats were the “target” of the suspects, she did not rule out the possibility, after the SPO opened an investigation at a press conference.

Ristoska said “at present we do not have any data about who has been tapped,” but believed that the investigation will answer these questions. She elegantly avoided giving a direct answer and got away with the wording: “At the moment I do not have the informationbefore me to announce exactly who was subject to monitoring.”

“For the individuals who have been the target, we have certain data, however, at the moment I do not have the information before me to announce exactly who was subject to monitoring. Of course, we’re talking about a growing number of phone numbers, whose owners we need to establish. As the investigation progresses, I believe that you will get answers to that question”, Ristoska said, when asked whether foreign ambassadors had been tapped.

As to whether President Ivanov was tapped, she said that “at this moment we can not provide such information”.

“Of course, if there is any further information, we will notify the public, currently we do not have information about whether the President was a target”, said Ristoska.
