The Director of the Administration of Security and Counterintelligence (UBK), Vladimir Atanasovski, today informed the Special Public Prosecutor’s Office that investigators from the SPO will not be allowed to be physically present on UBK premises until the outside expert arrives, who will be assisting in the extraction of the data from the wiretapping systems.
“After most of the data was collected, and in order to fully implement the court order, yesterday, we asked the Director of the Administration of Security and Counterintelligence to allow investigators of this Public Prosecutor’s Office to be physical presence at the premises of the Administration until the outside expert arrives, who will assist in the implementation of the court order. Our request was not accepted, as today, we received a message in writing from the Director of the Administration of Security and Intelligence”, said the SPO.
In the letter, the Special Public Prosecutor and her team were informed that UBK, “as an institution can guarantee that the equipment and systems which are subject to the court order will be completely safe, and in accordance to the regulations on classified information”, and that their request was “not acceptable, due to the principles of confidentiality and the way the Administration functions, including the confidentiality and identity of the members of the Administration”.
After the response and the position of the Director of UBK, the SPO stated that until the outside expert from “Ericsson” arrives, providing safety for the equipment will be the full responsibility of the UBK.
“We want to clarify, that we will determine if the computer data and systems which is yet to be collected, has been manipulated or whether certain data has been deleted. At the same time, we have taken into account the guarantees from the Minister of Interior, who from yesterday evening, until the arrival of the outside expert, has taken additional measures to ensure the safety of the courtyard of the Interior Ministry, where the Administration of Security and Counterintelligence is also located”, emphasized the SPO.
