SPO: The formation of special departments is expedient

-

The eventual formation of special departments is expedient and rational, said the Special Public Prosecution’s Office to our correspondents at “Meta”, in connection with the initiatives for the establishment of special departments within the courts and the MOI, for the cases led by the SPO.

The SPO have said they will not comment further on these issues because, according to them, it is their job to carry out independent investigations.

“We believe that the eventual establishment of special departments is expedient and rational, however, it is our job is to conduct independent investigations, therefore we will not comment further on the issue”, said the SPO in response to to our questions regarding their position on recent announcements of the formation of special departments that would assist in cases which are led by the SPO, as well as the formation of special departments within the courts to process their cases.

The leader of the VMRO-DPMNE Nikola Gruevski, said that the proposals for the establishment of these departments are unacceptable.

“For us, this is not acceptable”, Gruevski answered briefly, who today visited the Municipality of Dolneni, in Prilep.

The President of the Judicial Council, Zoran Karadzovski said today, that he does not believe that the concept of which the judiciary is set should be changed, however, if it a question of the establishment of special court departments, which according to him, the existing laws and Constitution does not permit such a change, a legal intervention would be needed, which would have to be conducted with extreme care.

“I, as a representative of the institution responsible for the judiciary, and the Judicial Council, believe that changes should not be made to the concept which is set in the existing judicial system. However, if the idea is accepted by the four major parties who are negotiating with representatives from the international community, and if a political agreement is reached, it should be known that the judiciary does not operate on the basis of  political agreements, but it is based on the Constitution and the laws of the land. So everything must be within the Constitution and the law. We, as a judicial body, are responsible and obliged to enforce laws and act in accordance with them”, said Karadzoski, and was reported by “Akademik“.

The Minister of Interior, Mitko Chavkov, yesterday said that the formation of a special police unit would be an illogical decision, because, according to him, the current Law on Criminal Procedure (LCP) enables any Prosecutor’s Office to request as many people as it needs from the MOI, and resources will be made available to them.
